Apart from yours truly, a number of cool things also got their beginnings 40 years ago. Here are three of my favourites:
1. The first ever episode of Star Trek was aired in September 1966. Although not a hard-core trekky myself, I did enjoyed the shows, especially the TV series (as opposed to the movies). And they did a fantastic job of popularizing science fiction and ideas for making the world better through technology.
2. The Montreal Subway was inaugurated just a few days after my birthday. Montreal was the 8th city in North America to have a subterranean transportation system.
3. A task force was established at IBM in 1966 which lead to the very creation of the software industry. The members of this group came up with concepts such as selling software separatly from hardware, charging for usage rights and sites licences.
So, is this destiny, or what? :-)
